Emma and Ben’s Wedding at Higher Eggbeer Farm in Devon

Dark and Moody Weding Portrait at Higher Eggbeer

Photographing Emma and Ben’s wedding felt a lot like being at a friend’s wedding with a camera. I’d met them several times before the day, including a venue visit and their pre-wedding photoshoot, and they were always so warm and enthusiastic.

I arrived at Higher Eggbeer to find them both getting ready in the main house, with makeup by Beauty by Tori Cleal and hair by Debbie Louise Hair. Their day was full of thoughtful details and personal touches, the kind you can tell had been planned with real care.

One of the things that made their wedding so memorable was the music. Emma and her bridesmaids walked down the aisle to Time by Hans Zimmer from Inception, perfectly timed and beautifully choreographed. In the dark, candlelit barn at Higher Eggbeer, it felt incredibly dramatic. It was also one of the darkest ceremonies I’ve photographed, which added to the cinematic atmosphere and really suited my style.

After the ceremony, confetti and some fun group photos, we used the candlelit barn for a some dark and moody wedding portraits. Emma’s dress from Brides at Waterfield and Ben’s suit from Moss Bros looked great together and photographed beautifully. Guests then enjoyed drinks and canapés before heading inside for speeches and dinner. The styling and florals by Deer Leap Farm looked perfect in the rustic setting. I loved the personal touches they added throughout, like vinyl records as place settings and a photo from their pre-wedding shoot as the guest book.

I also learnt that Emma and Ben love mini golf, so naturally they hired a full crazy golf setup from Portable Putts, which was a massive hit with everyone. Swaddledown provided more garden games, and it all created such a fun, relaxed atmosphere. After their golf round, we slipped away for a few more portraits in the golden evening light.

Then it was time to party. Their first dance started with Home by Cinematic Orchestra before blending into Etherwood in a special remix created just for the day. Like everything else on their wedding day, it was personal, dramatic and effective. The Roustabouts Collective kicked off the evening and everyone danced long into the night!

If you’re planning a wedding at Higher Eggbeer or anywhere in Devon and want natural, cinematic photography that captures the atmosphere and emotion of your day, I’d love to hear from you. Feel free to get in touch and tell me what you’re planning.
