Charley and Jake’s wedding was exactly what a small celebration should be — personal, relaxed, and full of character. Held on a crisp November day at Cockington Court in Devon, they invited just their closest family to witness a day that was elegant, fun, and a little bit magical.
The couple asked everyone to wear all black, creating a stylish, slightly spooky vibe. Of course, Charley stood out beautifully in a white dress with a disco-inspired top! This kind of creativity is what I love most as a documentary wedding photographer — when couples fully embrace their personalities and make the day their own.
The ceremony took place in an intimate room at Cockington Court, and you could feel the emotion in the air. Charley and Jake exchanged heartfelt vows, both reaching for tissues by the end. With only close family present, the moment felt real and grounded.
Afterward, we snuck away for a few quiet portraits indoors before heading to the nearby churchyard for group photos. The weather was perfect. The sun streamed through the trees, giving us beautiful golden light and a natural backdrop that fit the day perfectly.
After a champagne toast in the rose garden, the group walked over to The Drum Inn for a relaxed pub meal — good food and cosy vibes.
Later in the afternoon, we returned to the gardens at Cockington Court for some couple portraits in the fading light. As the sun dipped lower, the whole place glowed with warm, golden tones.
That evening, Charley and Jake hosted a small reception at Charley’s family home — completely transformed for a pagan-themed celebration. Think candlelight, potion-inspired cocktails, and a cosy fire pit. Charley had changed into a black dress, perfectly matching the mystical mood of the night.
The highlight of the evening was a handfasting ceremony under a full moon. Surrounded by candles and firelight, Charley and Jake tied the knot again in a private, spiritual moment. It felt timeless and otherworldly — one of those rare, quiet scenes that says everything without needing much direction.
We finished the night with one last photoshoot, using only candlelight for a soft, intimate glow. As they embraced under the stars, it felt like the perfect end to a day filled with creativity, connection, and love.
Whether you’re planning an intimate wedding, a pagan handfasting, or something a little different, I specialise in documentary wedding photography that’s relaxed, natural, and personal.
