A Summer Wedding at Clevedon Hall, Somerset

Angus and Maddy’s Clevedon Hall wedding was the perfect blend of elegance, character and relaxed celebration. As a Somerset wedding photographer, this was a dream setting, especially for a couple who had travelled all the way from the United States for a destination wedding in the South West.

Clevedon Hall has a bit of everything: grand rooms, rich character, and beautiful gardens that make the whole day feel timeless. When I arrived, Angus and his best man were in the Great Hall putting the finishing touches to their speeches. Meanwhile, Maddy was in the bridal suite with her friends and family, getting ready with hair by Holly Mae Hair and makeup by Evie Smith Makeup. After a combination of candids and portraits of both sides, it was time for the ceremony.

Just before the ceremony began, a moment happened that none of us will forget. A perfectly white butterfly landed on Maddy’s bouquet and stayed there for several seconds before fluttering across to each bridesmaid’s flowers. It felt like a quiet, meaningful pause before the day unfolded. The florals by  Kimberley’s The Florist looked beautiful throughout.

The ceremony took place in the bright Orangery, led by celebrant Marcus Armstrong. It included a hand-fasting and a drink-mixing ritual using ingredients from both of their home countries, which made the whole thing feel personal and warm. After the ceremony, everyone stepped outside for a confetti exit with Clevedon Hall framed beautifully behind them.

We kept the group photos quick and relaxed before heading into the gardens for a walk and some couple portraits near the lake. The grounds gave us a lovely mix of light and texture, ideal for natural, cinematic images.

Back inside, speeches and the wedding breakfast took place in the library. After delicious food and heartfelt words, the party spilled out into the gardens for cocktails and lawn games. This slow, sunny part of the afternoon was full of lovely interactions and a perfect chance for relaxed photos.

As the evening approached, Angus and Maddy took a moment away from the crowd. By this point they were fully themselves in front of the camera, and the soft evening light gave us some of my favourite images of the day.

We wrapped up back inside for dancing and celebrations, with DJ Kieran Clarke keeping the atmosphere high well into the night.

Angus and Maddy’s wedding had everything you could want from a destination celebration in the South West: character, warmth, and a day that unfolded naturally from start to finish. It was a joy to photograph.
