Roy and Micki’s Dartmoor wedding was the perfect example of why outdoor weddings in Devon can be so special. Moody weather, dramatic light and wild scenery all came together to create a day that felt cinematic from start to finish. As a Devon wedding photographer, Badgers Holt in Dartmeet is one of those places that always delivers with its beautiful nature and scenery.

When I arrived, light rain was drifting in and out. Micki was getting ready in her bridal suite while Roy finished a few last jobs around the venue. Despite the showers, they made the last-minute decision to continue with the outdoor ceremony by the river, and it was absolutely worth it.

The ceremony space looked beautiful with flowers by florist Milli Fleurset beneath an oak tree with the River Dart running behind. The sound of the water, the movement in the leaves and the soft light made it feel incredibly peaceful. Just before Micki walked down the aisle, a grey wagtail landed nearby, which felt like the perfect Dartmoor touch.

After the ceremony, register signing and confetti, we stayed in the same spot for group photos, making the most of the natural backdrop. From there, Roy and Micki had a short couple shoot by the river. With the help of the bridesmaids, they made their way across the stepping stones to the middle of the river, which gave us some brilliant frames.

The reception began with drinks, speeches and dancing, and the atmosphere stayed lively throughout the afternoon.

Later in the day, Roy and Micki asked for a private photoshoot a short drive deeper into Dartmoor. As soon as we arrived, the skies opened and it rained heavily, but they embraced it completely. The weather added drama and emotion to the images, and the whole moment felt spontaneous and memorable.

Back at the venue, the evening carried on with sparklers, which always make for great photos. After that came something much more personal to them: gaming. Roy and Micki are big gamers, so we made sure to include it in their photos, along with a bit of moshing to heavy metal to finish the night.

It was such a pleasure spending the day with them. A truly unique Dartmoor wedding with the perfect mix of emotion, adventure and atmosphere.
