Charley and Jake’s wedding was exactly what a small celebration should be — personal, relaxed, and full of character. Held on a crisp November day at Cockington Court in Devon, they invited just their closest family to witness a day that was elegant, fun, and a little bit magical.
The couple asked everyone to wear all black, creating a stylish, slightly spooky vibe. Of course, Charley stood out beautifully in a white dress with a disco-inspired top! This kind of creativity is what I love most as a documentary wedding photographer — when couples fully embrace their personalities and make the day their own.
The ceremony took place in an intimate room at Cockington Court, and you could feel the emotion in the air. Charley and Jake exchanged heartfelt vows, both reaching for tissues by the end. With only close family present, the moment felt real and grounded.
Today would be one of the first ceremonies ever in the brand new Wedding Barn. The space felt calm and open, with clean lines and soft tones that worked perfectly for the ceremony. The ceremony itself was full of emotion and connection, and the barn made a beautiful backdrop without needing anything extra.
Right after the ceremony, we headed out to the rose garden for the confetti. From there, we moved over to the main house, a more traditional part of the venue, for group photos. The mix of old and new across the property gave us a lot of variety for portraits. We took a short walk around the older parts of the property for a quick couples photoshoot. Nothing too staged or overly posed, just some quiet moments together with space to breathe. I wanted to save the Barn for our golden hour shoot later!
Back in the reception all, guests sat down for the wedding breakfast, followed by speeches and cutting of the cake by Swirls and Pearls.
As the light outside shifted, we stepped out again for a few more portraits in the golden hour glow, and got some great candid laughing shots.
Once the sun dipped, it was time to dance. The reception room lit up as Perfect Wedding DJs kept the energy high, and everyone hit the dancefloor. Claudia and Michael were right in the middle of it, surrounded by their favourite people.
If you’re getting married at Glebe House Cottages or planning a relaxed, countryside wedding in Devon, I’d love to hear from you. As one of the very few photographers to have photographed at this new venue, I can honestly say it’s a brilliant space for a celebration.
