A Relaxed Outdoor Wedding at Hawke Barn, Devon

Weddings at Hawke Barn always have a quiet, peaceful atmosphere, and Steven and Tilly’s day captured everything I love about photographing in Devon. With the ceremony set beside the lake, the soft November light and still water created the perfect setting for natural, relaxed photography. As a Devon wedding photographer, it was a day full of emotion, connection and calm moments that felt completely true to them.

Steven and Tilly’s wedding at Hawke Barn was full of meaningful details from the start. I arrived in the morning to photograph the preparations, with Tilly and her bridesmaids in great spirits while Hannah from Bright Eyed Beauty worked on hair and makeup.

One of the most emotional moments was Tilly’s first look with her parents. Quiet, warm and full of feeling, it set the tone for the rest of the day.

In the cottage garden, Tilly and Steven shared a private first look. It was a simple moment, but one that allowed everything to slow down before the day picked up pace.

The ceremony took place outdoors by the lake, with guests seated on hay bales. Even under grey skies, the setting felt calm and atmospheric. Anna from Howie and the Flowers created a beautiful display, along with colourful bouquets for Tilly and her bridesmaids.

After the ceremony, we captured a few portraits before Steven and Tilly walked through a willow arch into a shower of confetti. A light, celebratory moment that suited them perfectly.

Guests enjoyed garden games and drinks from the Gatehouse Trailer Bar, while I moved through the crowd capturing relaxed, candid moments. while I moved through the crowd capturing relaxed moments. One of the biggest hits of the day was my Party Cameras, which guests used throughout the afternoon. It gave everyone a chance to document the celebration in their own way and added an extra layer of fun.

Dinner was a laid-back hog roast from North Devon Hog Roast, with everyone eating together at long tables.

After speeches, we slipped away for some golden hour portraits. The light finally broke through, casting warm tones across the fields and making for some of my favourite images from the day.

As the evening kicked off, everyone gathered in Hawke Barn for cake and dancing. With live music from Sam Dowden, the party carried on late into the night.
