A Festival Themed Wedding Where The Heavens Opened

“Absolutely amazing photos from Elliot. Great to have around, quick turnaround and the most stunning photos. Couldn’t recommend highly enough!”

– George and Tess

Photographing someone’s wedding is always an honour. But when another wedding photographer asks you to shoot theirs, it’s an even bigger compliment. George — a talented photographer himself — trusted me to document his and Tess’s day at Castlewood Vineyard in East Devon, and I knew from the start it was going to be special.

Wedding Ceremony with Hay Bales

Castlewood Vineyard is tucked away in the rolling hills of East Devon. It’s a peaceful, slightly wild place—perfect for an outdoor wedding with a relaxed, festival-inspired feel. Guests arrived to the sound of music and the clink of glasses from Finn Studio mobile bar, setting the tone for a day that was more about experience than tradition.

George greeted guests with a huge smile, surrounded by friends and family. When Tess arrived, she did so in style—off-roading her way up the hill in a 4×4, flanked by her favourite people. The ceremony was informal and intimate, with guests seated on hay bales, looking out across the vineyard.

When Tess arrived, she did so in true festival style — riding in an off-road vehicle with her best people by her side. It was a perfect entrance, capturing the adventurous, free-spirited nature of the day. The ceremony itself took place in front of guests who were seated on hay bales, which added a rustic and cosy touch.

Outdoor Wedding Photos in Devon

It rained… a lot. But honestly — it didn’t matter. The weather only added to the feeling of adventure. Guests traded heels for wellies, and the whole celebration took on a joyful, unbothered energy. I often tell couples that a bit of rain brings atmosphere and emotion to outdoor wedding photography, and this day was the perfect example.

After the ceremony, George and Tess stepped into the forest for a quiet moment together. With soft rain falling through the trees and not a sound but the leaves underfoot, it was one of those peaceful, real moments that feel cinematic without trying.

The celebrations carried on with a confetti toss in the woods, and then everyone made their way to the marquee for food, speeches, and dancing. Habibi’s, Habibi’s served up health-conscious street food while the vineyard’s own sparkling wine flowed freely.

By evening, the dancefloor was packed. The rain had turned the grass to mud, but no one cared. Shoes came off, and the dancing didn’t stop. It was one of those weddings where everyone was fully in the moment, and it was a joy to document it all.

George and Tess’s wedding was truly unforgettable. The unpredictable weather only added to the day’s charm, making their celebration at Castlewood Vineyard feel like a true festival of love and laughter.
