Outdoor weddings in Devon have a magic of their own, especially when they come with a bit of drama in the weather. George and Tess planned a relaxed, festival-style celebration at Castlewood Vineyard, complete with a marquee, woodland paths and sweeping countryside views. As a Devon wedding photographer, I love days that are full of character, atmosphere and people who lean into the moment, rain or shine.

Photographing someone’s wedding is always a privilege, but when another wedding photographer asks you to shoot theirs, it carries extra meaning. George is a talented photographer himself, and trusting me with his and Tess’s celebration meant a lot.
Castlewood Vineyard is set in the rolling hills of East Devon, surrounded by woodland and pockets of wild countryside. It is an ideal place for an outdoor wedding photography with a relaxed, festival feel. Guests arrived to music drifting across the hillside and drinks from the Finn Studio mobile bar.

Tess arrived in true festival fashion, riding up the hill in an off-road vehicle with her closest friends. The ceremony took place in front of hay bales overlooking the vines, keeping everything informal and personal.

It rained. A lot. But it genuinely added to the atmosphere. Guests switched heels for wellies, shared umbrellas and embraced the weather without hesitation. Rain brings a cinematic quality to outdoor wedding photography, and this day was the perfect reminder of that.
After the ceremony, we walked into the forest for a quiet moment. With the sound of rain on the leaves and a soft stillness through the trees, it became one of the most peaceful parts of the day.

The celebrations carried on with a confetti toss in the woods, and then everyone made their way to the marquee for food, speeches, and dancing. Habibi’s, Habibi’s served up health-conscious street food while the vineyard’s own sparkling wine flowed freely.

By evening, the dancefloor was packed. The rain had turned the grass to mud, but no one cared. Shoes came off, and the dancing didn’t stop. It was one of those weddings where everyone was fully in the moment, and it was a joy to document it all.

George and Tess’s wedding was truly unforgettable. The unpredictable weather only added to the day’s charm, making their celebration at Castlewood Vineyard feel like a true festival of love and laughter.

“Absolutely amazing photos from Elliot. Great to have around, quick turnaround and the most stunning photos. Couldn’t recommend highly enough!”
