I photograph weddings all over the UK – but the Lake District is special to me. It’s where I grew up, and where I got married myself. Having now moved to Devon, when I found out Greg and Shelley were getting married in the Lake District, I couldn’t wait. Their venue, Town Head Estate, is right on the shores of Lake Windermere – arguably one of the most picturesque spots in the UK for a wedding.
The night before, I checked the forecast and saw we were in for mist over the lake. I arrived early to capture some quiet landscape shots. The autumn colours and early light felt like the calm before the celebration.
For this wedding, I had the pleasure of working alongside my friend Esmé Whiteside, though all the photos shared here are my own.
A couple of hours before the ceremony, Greg and Shelley were both calm and relaxed. You’d never have guessed they were about to get married. While they got ready, I moved between spaces capturing quiet details and the natural rhythm of the morning.
Things gradually picked up pace, with both sides full of laughter and excitement. One emotional highlight was Shelley’s mum seeing her in her dress for the first time. Both were absolutely beaming. Shelley was especially excited to show off the fact her dress had pockets — a definite win.
When it was time, I joined Greg in the ceremony room. He was standing with his dog and his little nephew, who both did a solid job keeping him calm. Over a hundred guests had made the trip from London, filling the room with warmth and anticipation.
After the ceremony, I got a quiet moment outside with Greg and Shelley. With champagne in hand and soft amber light coming through the trees, the setting was perfect for a few gentle portraits—no posing, just genuine post-ceremony energy.
Next came a cocktail reception followed by a boat trip on Lake Windermere. It was a brilliant way for everyone to experience the Lakes, especially the guests visiting from the city. I managed to pull Greg and Shelley to the back of the boat for a few quiet frames. It was cold, but clear, and they huddled up to keep warm. No direction was needed—their closeness and joy came through naturally.
As the boat turned back toward the venue, golden hour began to break through the clouds. That combination of soft light and connection made for some of my favourite shots of the day.
After docking, all of the guests headed back to the venue, while we stayed by the lake to get some photos here. With such incredible scenery, it was impossible not to get some stunning photos! These photos are some of my favourite of the year.
After we docked, we paused by the lake to take in the view and capture a few more portraits. With scenery like this, and a couple fully in the moment, the photos speak for themselves.
Back at the venue, speeches flowed into dinner, and then The Daddy-O’s started the party. The dancefloor filled instantly. Song after song, guests danced, shouted lyrics, and threw themselves into the night. Watching both families come together in full celebration reminded me why I do this job. These are the moments people carry with them.
